FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Niners Basketball Collective forms partnerships with Charlotte basketball student-athletes through Name-Image-Likeness Agreements ("NIL Agreements"). These athletes are chosen by the Leadership Committee of the Niners Basketball Collective. As part of the NIL Agreement, in exchange for financial compensation, an athlete grants the Niners Basketball Collective the rights to use their image and likeness. This includes promoting the athletes on this website, at various events, and through other promotional activities. The athletes receive their compensation in payments through Niner Exchange powered by INFLCR, the approved athlete student exchange.

Approximately 85-90%. The operational expenses of Niner Basketball Collective are notably low due to the significant amount of pro bono work involved in its setup, including legal services and interactions with Charlotte student-athletes and external parties. However, the Niners Basketball Collective does incur ongoing costs for accounting, maintaining, and hosting its website, creating content, processing payment transactions, organizing fan and athlete events, among other standard operational expenses of running an online NIL collective.

Initial costs, such as those for developing the website, were covered by generous donations from the Leadership Committee of the Niners Basketball Collective and various other supporters. Moving forward, the Niners Basketball Collective reserves the right to hire an administrator to oversee the website and its programs, yet it will continue to benefit from the voluntary contributions of time and effort from many individuals. The core objective of the Niners Basketball Collective, which is to maximize the NIL benefits for Charlotte men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes, remains the steadfast priority.

Every student-athlete at Charlotte is required to adhere to the NIL Rules, the Executive Order from the State of North Carolina, as well as Charlotte 49ers Athletics own Athletics NIL Policy. In essence, there needs to be a reciprocal exchange of value between the student-athlete and a person or entity. It is important to note that NCAA regulations that ban pay-for-play and unauthorized incentives are still applicable.
